Double Win for Caterham racer Andy Molsom of Molsom & Associates Optometrists at Snetterton in Norfolk.
The first hot weekend of the year saw the Caterham Graduates contesting round 3 and 4 at Snetterton. Saturday’s qualifying session was a mixed class affair, with faster and slower cars, and despite Molsom feeling he had a little more pace, he qualified on Pole Position for both races.
Saturdays` afternoon race saw Molsom make a good start from pole, and soon started to pull away from the rest of the pack. It was a mixed class race, with the MegaGraduate cars starting 20 seconds earlier, but by the start of the second lap, Molsom was starting to catch them. By lap 3, after being held up midcorner by a MegaGraduate car, Ed Benson in second place caught Molsom. There was then a battle through to the end of the race, whereby Molsom and Benson were swapping places numerous times every lap, but Molsom was victorious at the chequered flag by just 13 thousandths of a second.
Sundays’ race was more closely fought from the off, a good start followed by a 20 minute battle between Benson and Molsom, sometimes changing places every corner. At the chequered flag, again Molsom got there first beating Benson by a tenth of a second. This time Molsom also secured the fastest lap of the race.
“Snetterton is a great circuit, and to come away with 2 poles and 2 wins is a perfect weekend. The car was flawless, and handles really well - massive thanks go to Rockey Racing for their car preparation.” Commented Andy.
Molsom further stamped his authority on the weekend, by completing the fastest lap in the second race.
Andy Molsom says, “It was brilliant to consolidate a great weekend at Silverstone by a perfect weekend at Snetterton. I am really looking forward to the next meeting at Rockingham.”
Molsom leaves Snetterton with an increased lead in the championship, the next meeting is at Rockingham near Corby on the weekend of 28/29th May.
First Win of the season for Caterham racer Andy Molsom of Molsom & Associates Optometrists at Silverstone GP.
At Silverstone, the Saturday qualifying session went well in changeable conditions. A rapidly drying track meant the last 2 laps dictated the starting order for the weekend, and saw Molsom qualify 2nd and 3rd in class for Saturdays’ and Sundays’ races respectively.
Molsoms’ class – the SuperGraduates started behind the faster cars from the MegaGraduates class, which meant starting 21st and 22nd on the road out of 41 starters for Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Saturdays` race saw Molsom make a blinding start in wet conditions, and momentarily took the lead of his class. Getting backed up at the apex of Copse corner pushed him back to 2nd in class. By the end of the first lap, he was mixing with the faster class in 8th place on the road. Pushing hard in the wet conditions, Molsom finished the race in 2nd place, but had worked his way up to 4th on the road amongst the front runners in the Megagraduates class.
Sundays’ race was dry, and Molsom again got a good start, and took the lead of his class on the second lap down down Hangar Straight and into Stowe corner. Molsom slowly pulled away from the rest of his class, and spent the race mixed up with the faster class. On the last lap, he had made his way up to fifth, with nearly 8 second lead over his fellow SuperGraduates. Due to lapping other cars, Molsom had the luxury to ease off and watch the MegaGraduates fight for position, but he still won his class by over 4 seconds.
“Starting the season with a win and a 2nd place is a near perfect weekend, the car handled fantastically in both the wet and dry conditions, and is a credit to the preparation by Rockey Racing.” said Andy Molsom.
Molsom further stamped his authority on the weekend, by completing the fastest lap in both races.
Andy Molsom says, “It was great to be back on the racetrack again after a long winter. It was a challenging weekend, with changeable conditions and grip levels from lap to lap. Even the wind on Sunday caused some difficulties on the exit of Copse, a sudden gust was enough to push the car wide at the exit.”
Andy leaves Silverstone with an early lead in the Championship, with 14 rounds to go. The next meeting is at Snetterton in Norfolk on the weekend of 7/8th May.
The centrally located independent practice in Hall Place, Spalding, was opened in 1997. Molsom & Associates Optometrists offer the highest standards of clinical care and customer service in a relaxed, helpful and friendly environment with a high level of trust, offering simply great eyewear and value for money.
Donington opticians, Molsom Family Eyecare Ltd is rebranding. Mr Molsom has decided to reduce his role in the company, although he will still be available for eye examinations. The new company will be named Clark Family Eyecare Ltd and will be wholly owned by previous co-director Mrs Cheryl Clark.
As one would expect there will be a few minor changes. We have a new logo (see picture) and as you can see our new corporate colours are two tone blue.
I am pleased to say there will be no change in our staff or services, you can expect the same friendly care and advice as you have always experienced.
The Opticians practice was opened in Donington in May 2008 by Andrew Molsom & his sister Cheryl Clark after 11 successful years working together in Spalding, where Cheryl was Practice manager. Since opening the Donington practice, Cheryl’s daughter - Annica has joined the business and is working towards her Dispensing Optician qualification.
Cheryl has over 30 years of optical experience and values the care given to the customers. “We pride /> ourselves on our professional services and the relationship we’ve built with local people, many of whom have become friends. It’s about putting people’s needs first every time.” said Cheryl.
The business employs two additional Optometrists at Donington Tracey Griffiths who has been working with us since we opened in Spalding in 1997, and Robert Young who previously worked in Boston. Andy and Robert both specialise in fitting Contact Lenses and Dry Eye Treatments.
The practice caters for the requirements of both NHS eligible patients and private patients by offering a choice of eye examinations. “With today’s technology we can discover so much about a person’s general health as well as their eye care needs so we always encourage our patients to choose an advanced eye examination. This includes taking a photo of the retina; the inside surface of the eye. This is called Retinal Photography, and enables us to compare further photographs at subsequent eye examinations. This process helps us to detect even the smallest change and serves as an early warning system for all sorts of health conditions, not just those solely related to the eyes. High blood pressure, Diabetes and raised cholesterol levels are a few examples of what can be detected” said Cheryl. NHS patients can upgrade to an advanced examination if they wish for a nominal charge.
In addition to the high-tech clinical services offered to patients, the business prides itself on the choice of spectacle collections, sunglasses and lens types available to suit everyone's pocket. The practice teams are well-trained and are always very happy to offer advice on frames and lenses to ensure patients get the most from their vision and look good in the process. Clark Family Eyecare is located in the Market Place where we have disabled access. Local car parks are free.

At the final meeting of the year, Andy Molsom secured 4th in the Caterham Super Graduates National Championship for the second year running at Thruxton in Hampshire.
The weekend started well, with Molsom qualifying 5th in each race, despite only having 15 minutes to learn the circuit before qualifying.
The first race began with a good start, but an even better start for 2 championship rivals who started a row behind. The first few laps consisted of a train of 10 cars fighting for the lead. Molsom slowly made his way forward and was leading the way by lap 8.
“It was great to be fighting at the front for the lead, the car felt good and could really lean on it.” Says Andy Molsom.
Unfortunately, under heavy braking into the final chicane of the lap 8, Molsom was hit from the side by Martin Kay, putting the pair at the back of the front pack of now 7 cars. Over the last few laps, Molsoms' car wasn't handling great, but he made it home into 6th position.
Some minor repairs were made to the car for Sundays race, however from lap 1 it was evident that there was still a problem with the handling. The car was a handful to control at pace, which caused Molsom to slowly drop down the order to finish 9th.
This however was enough to finish 4th in the Championship, due to good results from previous rounds, and to win the Best Consistent Finisher Trophy for the highest placed competitor (outside the top 3) who finished every race.
“It was a mixed weekend, I had a long shot at 2nd in the Championship, of which four of us were fighting for. The accident and strong finishes from 2 other competitors in the first race meant that challenging for 4th was on the cards. Luckily due to dropping our 3 worst scores, and having good results from previous races, I sealed 4th in the Championship for the second year.” Added Andy Molsom.
Molsom will collect his trophy from Steve Parrish, former motorbike and truck racer who is now a motorsport TV commentator, in November at the Awards Evening.
